| Organization: The Otter Group Title: CEO Phone number: 617.491.4535 |
Biography: I am a graduate of the Stanford class of 1979 and have been working in the field of electronic learning and education for my entire career. Highlights include developing the first distance education program for scientists in 1984, Harvard Business School’s first e-learning program in 1992, and working with Peter Drucker in 1996 to develop an e-learning program that was seen by 10,000 nonprofit managers in North America.
The three most transformational moments: 1) when I first witnessed the power of satellite communications to bring education to large numbers of people; 2) when I was privileged to facilitate a satellite bridge between Boston and the former Soviet Union, during which American scientists initiated the rehabilitation of Andrei Sakharov; and 3) when I first experienced live two-way video communications via the internet between Cambridge, Massachusetts and Seoul, Korea. The world became a much smaller place.
What brought me here: I started working on e-learning programs in 1983, when I was asked by the Chairman of the Union of Concerned Scientists to help him “speak into a tube in Boston and break windows in San Francisco.” I started using newly available satellite and email communications technologies to educate scientists. Since then I have been dedicated to developing the best methodology for teaching and learning electronically.
Call me when: You need a top-flight e-learning program for your organization.
Something you should know about me that I don’t put on my resume:
I was first runner-up to the homecoming queen in high school.
What I’d be called if I were a professional wrestler:
